For each date in the above schedule, all 8 courses will run simultaneously. Each course will run over a twelve week period. Cost of computer and internet access is not included in the tuition fees and is the responsibility of the student.

AFOA 1 - Community Economic Development

One of the top challenges for most First Nation communities is to increase economic development opportunities. This course offers an understanding and an opportunity to develop skills in advancing community economic development. It will assist those in communities without an economic development officer a path for moving things forward. For those communities with an economic development officer it will expand the team of individuals with knowledge and skills to move things forward.

The cost for this course is:

Members: $535 (plus applicable taxes)

Non-members: $645 (plus applicable taxes)

AFOA 2 - Aboriginal Management Practices I

Course participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to successfully manage Aboriginal programs. The course will cover a broad range of topics from policy and planning, to resources, accountability, reporting, evaluation, and building relationships.

The cost for this course is:

Members: $535 (plus applicable taxes)

Non-members: $645 (plus applicable taxes)

AFOA 3 - Aboriginal Program Management

Sound management practices are an essential element of Aboriginal governance. This course takes a comprehensive look at the importance of good management practices and some of the tools to help build and maintain good practice. Participants will examine a broad range of topics including change management, problem solving, leadership, negotiations and dispute resolution.

AFOA 4 - Aboriginal Management Practices II

This course will provide the course participant with a broad based understanding of maintaining good values and ethics within the workplace. The course will cover business ethics, human resources management fundamentals, types of ethical situations, the role of managers, as well as financial ethics.

FSMA: First Nations Fiscal & Statistical Management Act

For many First Nations in Canada, moving forward with economic development can be challenging.  One challenge is the lack of access to affordable financing for capital projects.  The course explores: the First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act (FSMA), the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB) and identifies how First Nations communities can utilize the FSMA and FMB services to access long-term financing for infrastructure development projects on reserve.
