AFM Program Exemptions

To get credit for successfully completing an AFM course offered by accredited Canadian universities and colleges, you must submit an official transcript to AFOA and apply for "a course exemption". Exemption requests for courses are reviewed to see if they meet the standards set by the AFOA exemption policy.

Exemptions are based on the current Certified General Accountants (CGA) of Canada equivalency standards -those courses recognized as transfer credits towards the CGA designation are the same courses AFOA recognizes as course exemptions towards the AFM program.

In order to qualify for an exemption for AFM program courses a pass mark of 65% from an accredited course is required. Exemptions will be granted on the basis of an official transcript of grades obtained at the university or college. The transcripts are retained by AFOA.

An administrative fee of $200.00 plus GST is applied. AFOA Canada must receive payment prior to reviewing the transcript. For each additional exemption granted following the initial assessment, a fee of $10.00 plus GST per exemption is applied. The administrative fees cover the cost of transcript evaluation, liaison with post-secondary schools and professional associations, research and curriculum development.
