Bio of Clay Harmon, CFP, CAFM, CMA, FCMA
Professionally, Clay earned his CMA designation in 1975, CFP designation in 1998, and CAFM (Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager) in 2002. In 2009 he was awarded the prestigious designation of fellow of the Certified Management Accountants of Canada. He has taught various accounting, financial management, and software courses for the CMA society and some colleges. He has presented workshops in the area of financial management and corporate governance on a provincial and national level.
He has also served on numerous volunteer committees and boards for various organizations including the CMA Society, Penticton Alliance Church, Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of BC (currently vice president), the Penticton & District Arts Council, and others.
His work experience includes many years as a self employed accountant in public practice, owner of some businesses in different economic sectors such as retail, resource, publishing and recreation. After serving the Penticton Indian Band as their CFO, he served the Nisga’a Nation as Director of Finance for the Nisga’a Lisims Government in New Aiyansh, BC. He currently resides in Kamloops, BC and serves as an independent consultant, primarily to First Nations organizations.
