HRME: Module 5 • Drug and Alcohol Policies

1-day Pre-conference Workshop on Human Resources Management Essentials: Module 5 - Drug and Alcohol Policies. Module 5 addresses how to develop and implement drug and alcohol policies that takes into consideration the impact of the new Cannabis Act, recent court decisions and updates to the Canada Labour Code that come into effect in September 2019. It will help participants to assess and update their existing Drug and Alcohol policies based on existing human rights, employment and privacy legislation. It also provides participants with information on how to communicate with supervisors and employees about updated policies, how to define safety-sensitive positions that may be subject to drug-testing, and how to identify potential impairment. The workshop ends with a discussion on the importance of documenting critical incidents and accommodating employees.
